Friday at 3.30pm arvo around 80 thrill seekers kicked off at the Alzberg with the VTS sponsored bar getting a thorough pizzling til Gluey pulled the pin on the freebies around 8pm. A group of hardcore liver punishing souls headed north to the hit the pubs until 4am.
Saturday was a brand new day, although hazy and furry for some… The VTS Open Day Juggernaut fired off around 9am with a sausage sizzle, plenty of goody bags, t-shirts, and liver cleansing cool clean water! This year VTS Bob was not speechless!!
The day was relaxed affairs with pump rebuild workshops, trade displays, working truck demonstrations, a hot catered lunch, refreshments including beer delivered by wheel barrow full compliments of Sandra. Phil Nunn ran a series of business improvement workshops which proved invaluable for those who attended.
Saturday arvo many chose to sit around the Café de VTS and blow the froth of a few and see who could tell the biggest lies!
Saturday night rolled around at the Mansfield’s premier restaurant, The Deck with the VTS crew taking over the whole top floor and partying on even further. Sydney based band/duet Makin Whoopee provide huge massive crazy entertainment for the evening with Tony and Chris jamming for five hours!
The crowd of baby boomers fell quite when Tony launched into a magnificent rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Wish you were here” not to mention his efforts playing the Strat with his teeth and also behind his head. Amazing.
The Deck provided magnificent food and service with Melissa and her crew ensuring that everyone was amply fed and watered!
Sunday dawned even furrier for some, with 4 cab loads of punters attending a party at Dodgy Dave’s after leaving the Deck at 2.30am. some of them even fronted for golf!
10 of us soldiered on to the Mansfield Golf Course where we generally drove carts around and hit a few balls. Johnno from Humpty Doo won the day and Lyndon won the award for driving a buggy where it should never go!
This year we had fantastic support from our suppliers, even Wallenstein sent out the two airs to the throne, Jim and Richo who conducted a brief pump rebuild in the morning before retiring to their rooms due to beer lag!!
Bernie Campbell and Bill Passer both elders of the Canadian Liquid Waste Fraternity made a huge effort to come to our show this year and thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Thanks to everyone who brought their trucks, all of our clients, potential clients, VTS staff, suppliers and overseas visitors who made the event what it was; a true blast!!
A special thanks to Sandra (the wheel barrow lady), Brian and Lyndon of VTS for all of their efforts in organising a great weekend!
See you for the next VTS Open Day in 2011 October 14 and 15, mark it down in your calendar/dairy!
